The Spectrum W's main goal is to supply
the ability to act fast and
efficiently, on wheels, in urban and
hostile areas, without being
vulnerable to fire and RCIED's.
Along with the crew, 2 stretch beds
can be carried. All of the doors of
the vehicle are bullet proof,
including the engine and gearbox
compartments. The doors are designed
for a quick getaway, and a camera
enables the driver and commander to
control the vehicle's rear part. The
Spectrum W features run-flat tyres, which
can function for dozens of kilometres in
case of a flat tyre.
The Spectrum W is a heavily armoured crew
carrier, which combines the best of
both worlds – commercial truck's
speed and manoeuvrability, and APC-like
armour using double skin 12mm
ballistic steel. Amoured to B7
specification and specifically
designed to withstand off route
improvised explosive devices (IED’s).
These features make it ideal for
low-intensity confronts, in which it
may be more useful and safe.
To combat RCIED's threats, as
standard the vehicle is equipped
with a Radio Frequency Jamming
System; a durable, high
powered UHF/VHF Low Frequency and a
Cellular/Satellite Radio Frequency Jammer The
method employed is Barrage,
Continuous, Simultaneous which
provides
complete spectrum jamming.
The Spectrum W chassis is based on a
FORD F-550 truck, and is equipped
with a 6-litre V8 engine, outputting
325 BHP. The engine is mated to a
5-speed automatic transmission,
which drives all four wheels (4x4).
The added armour of 3 tons is not
critical to the Spectrum W overall
weight since its maximum load is 8
tons. And since no major changes
have been done to the chassis,
except the addition of armour, the
vehicle does not suffer from engine
overheating or handling problems.
